History

The queer pride flag was created by Pastelmemer, a digital artist on DeviantArt, and appeared online in 2015.

Queer is used by many people as an umbrella word for identities outside of straight and cisgender, and the flag was made to reflect that whole range rather than a single label.

Its nine horizontal stripes pair pinks and blues for same-gender attraction, orange and green for nonbinary and gender nonconforming people, and black and white for asexual, aromantic, and agender people.
