In Patrick Hunter's words, the sun “provides us with everything else that we need in this life”.

A nod to the earliest pictograph art, a connection to ancestors seven generations back, in the colors of the rainbow.
Two feathers and a circle on the rainbow (2016 flag)
In its creator's words, the two feathers represent woman and man, and the circle represents unity in one.
History
Two-Spirit is an umbrella term used by some Indigenous people in North America. Elder Myra Laramee introduced the term in Winnipeg in 1990.
To mark the term's 35th anniversary in 2025, the International Day of Pink unveiled a new Two-Spirit flag at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, designed by Anishinaabe artist Patrick Hunter. Two eagle feathers represent the balance of masculine and feminine spirits, resting on a sun that, in Hunter's words, “provides us with everything else that we need in this life.” Rows of rainbow dots and circles recall the earliest pictograph art, which Hunter sees as a connection to ancestors seven generations back. The launch came with a short documentary, Re-Emergence, and a free curriculum for educators.
Its detailed, hand-drawn style has been praised for honoring Indigenous art and debated for being hard to reproduce, with Two-Spirit people sharing views on both sides.
Many communities still fly the two-feather rainbow flag, first shared in 2016 by a Tumblr user known as 2Sanon: two feathers and a circle on the rainbow flag. Versions also appear on the Progress Pride flag and the transgender flag.
