History
Monica Helms created the transgender flag in 1999, and it was first flown at Phoenix Pride in 2000. Helms designed the stripes to mirror each other so that no matter which way it is flown, it is always right side up, a nod to finding correctness in our own lives.
In 2014 Helms donated the original flag to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Today it is one of the most widely flown pride flags in the world.
