History
Vesper H., known on Tumblr as queerascat, coined the word maverique in June 2014 and designed the flag a few days later.
Maverique describes a nonbinary gender that is independent of both man and woman, rather than a mix of the two or the absence of gender. The name comes from maverick, someone who stands apart.
The three stripes are yellow for a gender that stands on its own, white for autonomy, and orange for inner conviction.
