History

Tony DeBlase designed the leather pride flag in Chicago and first presented it at International Mr. Leather on May 28, 1989. It appeared in a pride parade for the first time in Portland, Oregon, that June.

DeBlase deliberately gave the stripes and the tilted red heart no fixed meaning, saying he would leave it to the viewer to interpret them. He also stated that the design is copyrighted.
